Cat Training - Taming Your Feline
By Julia Camden

Cat training can be a very frustrating process for those who are not experienced, or at least familiar with the process. Cats are very independent animals, so quite often they do not take to training simply to please their owner as a dog might.
The easiest time to train a cat is when it is a kitten, since it allows you to establish routines while they are young and maintain consistency into their adult life. Cat training can be done in many ways, so it is a good idea to consult a professional or a book for advice on the best methods.
When looking for ways to reward your cat while training, try using treats instead of toys. Although like both, treats can be given quickly whereas toys can sometimes be a distraction. You would unlikely be able to continue training if your cat wanted to continue playing with his toy. Remember. short training sessions are best due to the short attention span of a cat.
When you decide to train your cat, start with simple things. To teach your cat to raise his front paws for a treat simply hold the treat within paws reach above

his head while he is sitting. In order to get the treat, he will naturally raise his paws and grab at it.
To train a cat to raise its paws to your hand whenever it is near their head, you need to train the cat consistently using the same method. The same approach is valid if you want to teach your cat how to lay down.
To train a cat, place a treat close to and in front of their paws while they are sitting. They will naturally lay down to get the treat. Reward them quickly at first, then delaying the reward with each correct task. Over time, your cat can be trained to lay down and wait for her treat.
After your cat has learned the desired behavior, you can start adding verbal commands. That way, you say the command and your cat acts as you want. You need to repeat this process many times, until the cat consistently associates the verbal command with the action.
Training a cat can be a very rewarding experience for both you and your cat. Remember if you're not having fun with it then your cat probably isn't learning. Stop for a while if you get frustrated.
Did you know that it is possible to effectively train a cat? Because cats are independent-minded animals the methods employed in training them differ from traditional dog training methods. You can avoid many frustrations with your furry friend if you begin kitten training as soon as you can.
